The Ijebu-Igbo Council of Elders (ICE) has compel the embattled erstwhile PDP Chairman in Ogun state, Engr. Bayo Dayo to step down as its chairman
In a letter dated 4th May, 2020 and jointly signed by the Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman, Prof. Layi Ogunkoya and Secretary, Otunba Yinka Bolajo said the ongoing political crisis in Ogun PDP and the involvement in partisan politics by Engr. Bayo Dayo is capable of dragging the group in the mud.
ICE further stated that it is unhealthy for the group if its chairman or members are embroiled in controversial and unhealthy partisan political issues that could divide the membership of the council and Orimolusi kingdom along political lines. It therefore advice him to vacate his position as a matter of honour and decency.
According to the letter, it stated that “First and foremost, we wish to place on record our deep appreciation of your activities during your tenure as the Chairman of ICE. For these we remain grateful to you”
“However, your active involvement in partisan politics and the ongoing political imbroglio in which you are deeply enmeshed, and having weighed the possibility of such as capable of bruising our collective sensibilities as a foremost group and the voice of the Ijebu Igbo Kingdom; the Board of Trustees (BOT) of this Council, arising from an emergency ZOOM meeting, resolved that you should in the meantime, step down forthwith us as the Council’s Chairman”
“Please note that by this action, the BOT is not being judgmental, rather the BOT, a strictly non-political organization feels that it will not be healthy for the ICE or ICE BOT if its Chairman and members are embroiled in controversial and unhealthy partisan political issues that could divide the membership of the Council and the Orimolusi Kingdom along political lines”
“We therefore wish and direct that, as a matter of honor and decency, you vacate your office.”
