ABEOKUTA — The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ogun state chapter has warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop the alleged destruction of it’s campaign posters across the stage
The PDP alleged that the wanton destruction of it’s billboards and other campaign materials especially in Ado-Odo Ota Local government area was sponsored by some state sponsored hoodlums hiding under the banner of Ogun State advertising Agency (OGSAA).
The party Publicity Secretary, 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝘄𝗮𝗷𝘂 𝗔𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗼𝗹𝗲 in a statement made available to The News Ville however stated that no amount of state sponsored attack can stop the PDP victory at the polls.
“In the last two weeks, the political space of Ogun State has come under an intensed heat and unnecessary pressure by criminal acts of brigandage unleashed by the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun against all opposition political Parties, especially the PDP.
“In the onslaught against us, OGSAA destroyed all the posters, billboards, banners and several other campaign materials of all PDP Candidates around Sango, Ota, Agbara, Ifo, Ewekoro, Iperu, Sagamu, Atan and many other locations while retaining ONLY those campaign materials belonging to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
“We humbly request to remind members of the public and other stakeholders that OGSAA is a government-funded institution and would ordinarily be expected to apply its laws and regulations in an objective manner without fear or favour.
“What we have seen in recent times is a clear case of selective treatment in the application of extant rules that regulate political advertising; obviously this is specifically targeted at the PDP.
“I𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙘𝙧𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙘𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝘿𝙖𝙥𝙤 𝘼𝙗𝙞𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙣 𝙞𝙨 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙩. 𝙃𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚. “It should be recalled that, the same uncivilized political tendencies exhibited by one of the APC councillors few days ago in Iperu, Dapo Abiodun’s hometown.
“In the face of all these barbaric provocations, PDP has remained calmed because we know that power ultimately belongs to the people. There is no amount of “𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮” 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙥𝙤 𝘼𝙗𝙞𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙧𝙪𝙙𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝘼𝙋𝘾 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙞𝙢𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙙𝙚𝙛𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙨.
“For us and every law abiding members of the public, It is a sad commentary that the same government that has manifestly failed in core areas of democratic governance has reduced OGSAA, a public institution funded by hardworking taxpayers to a mere tool of political clampdown on the PDP and other opposition parties.
“The PDP being a responsible and law abiding political organization, we are prepared and ever determined to abide by rules of the contest, we have always conducted issue and facts based campaign.
“However, we also seek to appeal to people of good conscience, especially security agencies to prevail on the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to be decent for once. He should not slaughter the overall peace of Ogun State on alter of unrealizable personal fantasies.
“The people of Ogun State who have suffered all manners of needless agonies, callous insensitivity and neglect are ready to freely make their choice in few weeks and no amount of “𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗲𝘀” from OGSAA or any government sponsored agencies would stop that”, the statement reads
