ABEOKUTA – A presidential aspirant under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has stepped down his ambition to contest for the party’s presidential ticket.
Oguntoyinbo however said he has decided to back the aspirations of former Kano State Governor, Sen. Rabiu Kwakwanso, whom he described as an accomplished politician and seasoned administrator to fly the party’s flag at the 2023 general elections.
Oguntoyinbo made known at a World Press Conference held at the NUJ secretariat Iwe iroyin Abeokuta on Thursday.
He maintained that Kwakwanso has both executive and legislative experience to save Nigeria from the current conundrum.
According to him, his decision was premeditated on party interest and love for the country.
Oguntoyinbo bemoaned the rising spate of insecurity in the country and lack of social amenities, alluding lack of selfless, sincere, servant-based leadership guided by high sense of equity and fairness to the prevailing ethnic and religious crisis in the country.
“Nigeria is a country that God Himself has blessed, but look around you today, you will agree with me that things are not working well. There is hunger in the land, despite the fact that Nigeria has arable land and a variety of foods and crops.
There is insecurity in the country, despite the fact that there is an elected government, with the Police, the Army, Navy, and Air force. Our children finish school and there are no jobs. Roads are in terrible condition
“There is no public water supply, no electricity, and all the necessities of life. But we have a government. We have billions of naira in cash and assets.
“Distinguished Nigerians, the missing link is Selfless, sincere, and servant-based leadership, guided by the highest sense of equity and fairness. That is what we in the NNPP have come to offer.
“Ladies and gentlemen, that is why, I Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, having considered many things, and in the interest of our great party and beloved country, today, relinquish my presidential ambition, to support the presidential candidacy of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate.
“It is in the interest of our party and our country. You know Senator Kwakwanso is a great Nigerian, accomplished politician, and administrator who will lift this country.”
