ABEOKUTA– Following the release of time table for the local government election by Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), the 100 women lobby group, led by its State Coordinator, Prof. Olubunmi Ashimolowo has demanded for a free, fair and credible election from the umpire.
Speaking exclusively with The News Ville on Thursday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Prof. Ashimolowo stated that OGSIEC must follow the rules guiding the local government election, adding that the citizens deserves it.
“The people of Ogun State do not just expect free and fair local government election, they deserve free and fair election.
“For the election to be credible, Gov. Dapo Abiodun and OGSIEC must ensure legal votes are counted. The will of the electorate must not be subverted.
“Local Goverment administration has suffered greatly in Ogun State. The politicians have hijacked the process of electing councillors and chairmen. They have turned the process to “selection and not election.” It is now a matter of “who you know.”
“Those at the helms of affairs in OGSIEC must be upright and allow level playing ground. Fairness should be the name of the game, ” she emphasized
Recall that the Babatunde Osibodu-led OGSIEC recently released the time table for the local government election.
The election will hold on Saturday 24th of July, 2021.
