LAGOS– One of the survivor of the infamous Lekki Toll Gate Shooting, Boniface Clan (Not real name) has debunked the statement by DJSwitch on the numbers of dead bodies at the scene, saying that he personally facilitated evacuation of 5 unconscious persons with military truck from the scene.
Speaking with The News Ville Sunday, Boniface further stated that DJSwitch may have mistaken the scenerio, adding that all the 5 evacuated from the scene survived with bullets wounds.
“From the videos I showed you, you can see that I was actively involved at the protest. I was there on that fateful day from 2pm
“I also shared my experiences with the police and how I was brutalized, which is mainly the hallmark of the whole Lekki protest. People take turns to speak on their experiences while others give motivational talks on how a true Nigerian should behave, like what AY the Comedian spoke about
“However, alot of things happened before the soldiers came which I may have to blame DJSwitch for. Although, giving the benefit of hindsight, she may have done better
“When the issue of the CCTV camera started going viral, I approached DJSwitch on stage for her to use the microphone to dispell the rumour but she ignored it, saying we should just leave it at that
“I also realized that people were almost leaving as at the 2pm i got there owing to the curfew imposed by the state government. All the ambulances, medical personnel, food vendors and the rest were packing up
“All of a sudden someone just announced on stage that it seems we have won one course as the state government has cancelled the curfew. This prompted people to start coming back
“Then DJSwitch told the protesters that incase the soldiers come, we should all sit down on the floor, keep mute and just wave the national flag, which we all did when they eventually came.
“At first, the soldiers started shooting in the air, breaking some of the street lights and trying to scare us away but we stood our grounds, sited on the floor and waving our flags
“But we lost the cooperation, when some people started hurling bottles and stones at the soldiers which may have provoked the ‘animal behaviour’ out of the Army personnel which lead to the unjustified shootings. There was a massive shooting until the Commanding Officer arrived.
“So the truth is, the Nigeria Soldiers shot at us. I personally assisted 5 victims to the hospital with the help of the same Army truck.
“Initially we took the casualties to the military clinic at Bonny Camp, from there, we were directed to General Hospital, Broad Street. I held two drips for the casualties from Bonny Camp to the general hospital
“As at the time Governor Sanwo-olu visited us, we had a total of 11 casualties from Lekki, we lost one the following day, the 5 casualties I personally assisted to the hospital were discharged. 3 were shot, 2 were unconscious but they were stabilized.
Out of the 3 that were shot, 2 left the hospital with bullet in their body because there were rumour that the government is likely to get them arrested when they recover so has to use them for investigation. Although, if this is true I don’t think the Governor will give out transport money for them to go back home when discharged”
Boniface further recounts that what should be termed the real ‘massacre’ was what transpired between the Nigeria Policemen and thugs at CMS the following day.
“Because of the curfew we couldn’t leave the hospital until 4:30pm on Wednesday. The main massacre we are to trend about is the killings and shootings by the Policemen, not even the Soldiers.
“On my investigation, I gathered from some of the survival at the General Hospital that some thugs blocked a Police DPO from passing at CMS, which lead to the unjustified shootings and killings.
“The emergency ward at the general hospital was like a slaughter ground as blood flows everywhere. In my presence before leaving the hospital, over 25 casualties were rushed down, one died before arrival, 4 died at the hospital in my presence.
“Parents were crying as if they should even go alongside with their son. Most of what I am saying, I have legit video evidence to back it up” he added.
