ABEOKUTA– As the country move towards the 2023 general elections, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged the Nigerian youths to avoid being tools in the hands of politicians rather make their voices heard with their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs).
The call was made, Thursday at a press conference held in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital by the students apex body.
The press conference came on the heels of the cancelled planned protest by the student body against the cash and fuel scarcity in the country
Addressing newsmen, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Ogun JCC Chairman, Comrade Damilola Kehinde appealed to the youth to remain calm and resolute towards ensuring a peaceful environment as the country approach the 2023 general election.
He appreciated the state governor, Dapo Abiodun for his quick response to the shot protester, while imploring the youth and students to come out to cast their vote, saying that the students populace can stand as deciding factor in the election with it’s 40.8% of register voters according to the INEC statistics.
“As peace loving people, the Nigeria student of the gateway state are also using this medium to appeal to everyone to stand together as a nation so as to secure peace and togetherness to secure the nation especially towards the elections.
“Make sure you get ready for the election, do not go out there and make yourself a tool but be ready to come out with your PVC because as stated in INEC statistics we are the most registered voters so it’s high time we go out there and make our voice count at once”, he added
In his remarks, the Deputy Senate President, NANS, Comrade Elvis Ekundina advised the youths to check the records and blueprint of politicians before they cast their votes, saying that the business of electing credible leaders goes beyond the usual rhetorics.
Meanwhile, Comrade Gbemileke Ogunronbi the National President of National Association of Ogun state Studens (NAOSS) also appealed to the state government to commence the payment of the year’s bursary as things are hard for students, and their parents.
“We want beg for the commencement of the year’s bursary. We must commend the governor for paying last year but bursary are paid every year.
“We want to appeal that this year’s bursary should start as soon as possible because things are hard for the students, youths and everybody not only in Ogun state but Nigeria in general “ he said
