100 Women Lobby Group Visits OGD, Canvasses For More Women In Politics

SAGAMU– The 100 Women Lobby Group, a non-political women group recently visited the former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel with the aim of canvassing for more women participation in politics and governance.

The state Coordinator of the group, Prof. Olubunmi Ashimolowo stated that the Group envisages a Society where equity, Equal opportunity for all, Gender justice, Access to health, Quality Education and Good Governance reign.

She added that the 100 Women Lobby Group encourages participatory resolution to solve Socio-Political and Economic Challenges for a better society.

Prof Olubunmi Ashimolowo lauded the efforts of the former governor at placing women in political positions during his tenure, adding that giving the right atmosphere, women can move the country to the next level.

“I remembered that when you are the executive governor of our dear state, you happened to be the first governor to appropriately place women where they ought to belong

“I also remembered then that we had the very first female speaker of the house of Assembly during your tenure. You had alot of women in your cabinet even at the Local Government level. So, you are an important stakeholder in the uplifting of women in the society”, she stressed

In his response, Otunba Gbenga Daniel thank the group for organising themselves for better participation in governance, adding that he has had it all good working with women during his tenure.

He however promise to partner with the group in term of training and supports mechanism in order to aid their work.

“So I will be prepared to support you, both areas of training and all of that, because if you want to go and advocate, you have to first train, so I think the first thing we need to do is to create time to train yourself and educate yourself” he said.
