ABEOKUTA– The wife of the Olowu Of Owu Kingdom, Olori Bosun Dosunmu has been decorated as the matron of the Nigerian Girls Guide Association.
Speaking at the event held amidst strict compliance with Covid-19 protocols at the Owu Palace Saturday, the Olori expressed happiness at her conferment, adding that she had always identified with the association.
In her words, ”I thank God for today, I should be able to put in my own quota too, may be in terms of advising and nurturing the children too, and then whatever thing that they want me to do , I should be able to do that.
”It seems as if we only talk about the girl child, although they are the one that we marry very early, they are the ones that are getting the brunt of may be the men are not treating them well but if a male child could be able to know how to grow up well, know how to take care of women everything will reduce, may be because they don’t see those who will nurture them, mentorg them, they don’t know how to take care of women, you see women are fragile, you know we have to handle everything that is fragile with care”
She however advised parents to always be there for their children, adding that a child left unattended to, will have no positive choices to make
”I want to advise parents that we should be there for our children right from the cradle
“it is not that my child is growing up now and we leave them and let them do whatever they want to do, we should try as much as possible to be mentoring and nurturing them, telling them what is good, what the society is requiring from them and what they are going to deliver to the society definitely our society and nation will be good” She added.
Speaking earlier, the State Commissioner of the Nigerian Girl Guides Association, Comrade Moyosore Adeyemi maintained that Olori Dosunmu was found worthy for the investiture.
She described her as a woman of open heart and a lover of children, while appreciating her for showing interest in supporting the Girls Guides
She said, ”We welcome Olori Dosunmu to Nigeria Girls Guides Association, Ogun State chapter. We thank you for granting our request to be our matron.
“We love you for deciding to join the association at this period, when girls and young women are facing a lot of violence, gender inequality among other in Nigeria.
”There are lot of challenges in which our girls are facing which are rape, abduction, kidnapping, other atrocities. It is against the girl child.
“Anybody that is ready to join the association at this period has the love for the girls child. We welcome you once again ma and we pray as you are joining us, God will continue to provide for you because since two weeks ago, you have been contributing to the upliftment of girls child.
“We also welcome all other dignitaries who are here at the investiture of our newest member, Olori Dosunmu” She concluded
Other dignitaries who graced the occasion includes, the Deputy Commissioner- Mrs Rhoda Thomas, Assistant State Commissioner- Miss Feyisetan Kemi Shittu, State Adviser- Rev. Mrs. Juliana Sonde Aluko.
Others includes the Immediate Past State Commissioner, Mrs. Modupe Alaba Kushimo, Matron- Rev. Mrs Oluwatoyin Adeyemo, Seyi Aderinmokun, Fed. Commissioner, National Population Commission (NPC), Erelu Adekemi Amoye- Erelu Amororo and Osi Iyalode Apomu, Chief (Mrs) Remilekun Opere.
