IJEBU-ODE– Chairmen of the nine local government councils in Ogun East Senatorial District have declared support for Governor Dapo Abiodun, endorsing him as their consensus candidate for the Ogun East Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced at the Ogun East Caucus meeting, where the council leaders cited what they described as the governor’s significant infrastructural and developmental achievements across the district.
Speaking on behalf of the chairmen, Hon. Afolabi Odulate (Sagamu), Hon. Folusho Badejo (Ijebu North East), Otunba Muyiwa Sodade (Remo North), and Hon. Jamiu Ashimi (Ikenne) said their position reflected a shared confidence in Abiodun’s leadership and future political prospects.
Odulate highlighted projects such as the Ijebu-Ode Dry Port, Tongeji Oil Well and the proposed Deep Seaport in Ogun Waterside, describing them as strategic investments capable of transforming the economic fortunes of Ogun East.
Badejo praised the governor’s administration for delivering projects many residents once considered unrealistic, including the state airport and major road infrastructure. He also alluded to what he described as the emergence of a capable successor in “Yayi.”
Sodade stressed the need for continuity in governance, saying stakeholders must rally behind purposeful leadership rather than hinder progress. He added that Abiodun’s relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu could enhance effective representation for the district at the national level.
Ashimi described the endorsement as a landmark moment for Ikenne Local Government, noting that it could mark the first time an indigene of the area would occupy the Ogun East Senate seat.
Also speaking, Hon. Bolaji Odusanya of Ijebu North Local Government described the governor as an Omoluabi with strong emotional intelligence, adding that his administration has promoted unity, stability and development across the senatorial district.
The chairmen said their endorsement was based on satisfaction with the governor’s performance and confidence in his capacity to represent Ogun East effectively in the Senate if elected in 2027.
