ABEOKUTA– The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zone B, has asked President Bola Tinubu to speed up the reconstruction of major roads in the Southwest especially, Ibadan-Ilesa road, Lagos-Abeokuta road, Akure-Ado Ekiti road, Akure-Owo-Idoani-Isua Akoko to Kabba in Kogi State among others.
This form part of the communique issued at the end of a two day zonal meeting of Union, held at the Ogun council secretariat, Iwe Irohin, Abeokuta.
Led by the Vice President, B Zone, Comrade Ronke Samo, the union also commended the Ogun state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on the quality of work going-on at Ogun State Agro Cargo Airport, while calling on the Southwest State governments to form a synergy towards a viable regional integration, social wellbeing and economic prosperity of the region.
“That the Zone advises the Southwest Governors to work seamlessly with the administration of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, other Governors and the National Assembly to facilitate creation of State Police to further strengthen the Southwest Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps.
“That the Zone urges President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to re-examine and order proper reopening of some borders linking the zone with neighbouring countries in order to cushion the harsh effects of fuel subsidy removal and to generate more revenues into the federal government’s coffer.
“That the Zone notes with emphasis the efforts and boldness of the Ondo State Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN CON, as the Chairman, Southwest Governors’ Forum, in the formation of the Amotekun Security Network, which has greatly enhanced security in the region, and the Union joins wellmeaning people of Ondo State and Nigerians to pray for his quick recovery.
“That the zone acknowledges the leadership skills of the National President, Comrade Chris Isiguzo a development that has enhanced the relevance of the union globally.
“That NUJ Councils across the Southwest zone should always organize regular free medical check-up for their members, while journalists should on their own go for regular medical check-up to prevent sudden death.
“That the Zone commends the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his harmonious working relationship with the Ogun State Council of NUJ and his recent assistance the union in the state, urging the Governor to assist in the reconstruction of the Ogun NUJ Press Centre”, the communique reads
The zonal meeting of leaders of the Union had participants from the 6 states in the South West, which comprises of Ogun, Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun states.
