As the race to the local government election hots up in Ogun state, several candidates have signified interest for different positions.
The premier local government, Abeokuta South is never bereaved of qualified aspirants.
In this interview with The News Ville, Muiz Omitogun, a former Secretary to the Local Government and Supervisor for Health, in the Local Government once again throws in his weight to wrestle the number one seat in the local government along others.
What makes Omitogun different, can he go all throng to bring fresh air to local government administration in the gateway state. He shares his interests and aspirations in this interview…
Can we meet you?
My name is Muiz Omitogun; was born in Abeokuta, from Ibarapa, ward one, in Abeokuta south Local Government.
Tell us about your educational background:
I went to Baptist Boys’ High School, Abeokuta for my secondary school education.
I also attended Ogun State polytechnic, ( now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic) Abeokuta, where I had my Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mass Communication.
I equally have a Master’s in Managerial Psychology (MMP) from the University of Ibadan.
I did my one year mandatory service with Champion newspaper, owerri office, first as a reporter and later, as a correspondent.
I had worked in so many places but my last place of employment was Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) where I was the Head, Membership & Student Affairs.
Why are you contesting for the position of a chairman?
I am contesting for the position of the Chairman to contribute to the growth, development and welfare of my people at the grassroots.
What are you coming to do, if elected?
What I am coming to do if elected the chairman is to:
One, to create mass employment for our people through investment in mechanized agriculture.
Two, improve our health care facilities in the local government and ensuring that all the 15 wards in the local government have a good and functional health centre, with adequate supply of drugs and reagents, including medical personnel like nurses and doctors.
What qualifies you to be the next Chairman?
What qualifies me to be the next Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government are:
Education: I have a good and solid education with a master’s to crown it.
Experience: I have over 25 years experience working in both private and government establishments. I have also contested for this position three times which makes me not to be a neophyte in politics.
I have had the opportunity to serve the the local government as the Supervisor for Health and the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) respectively. This means I am more familiar and grounded in Local Government administration.
Integrity: Another attribute that is key and which many politicians lack is integrity. I am a man of my word: My word is my bond:
Do I see myself winning?
I think the most important thing here is to have what it takes to be the chairman which I think I have. However, it is the Almighty Allah who decides the overall winner.
I hope and pray to Almighty Allah to guide and direct our party leaders to do the right thing by being fair, just and transparent to all aspirants.
