ABEOKUTA– Former workers of Nigeria’s foremost real estate mogul, Engr. Jide Taiwo has celebrated their former boss on the occasion of his 75th birthday.
Part of activities marking the celebration was a medical outreach program held at the palace of Olota of Ota, in which about 500 residents benefitted.
A wide range of healthcare services, including eye tests, medical check-ups, sugar tests, consultation, health talk, blood pressure screenings, free medications and distribution of glasses, just as others with further medical needs were refered.
Speaking with newsmen, Toyin Aluko, one of the former staff of the celebrant, described him as an humanist per excellence, who would rather go out and make a difference in the lives of the people.
“In our little way of appreciating the remarkable role of the Chairman of Chief Jide Taiwo & Co played in shaping the future and career of we the Estate Surveyors and Valuers, so we have come down to Ota today, the town of Chief Jide Taiwo to give free medical services to the people of this community for them to have an impact and to know the valuable contribution of their son to the growth and development of profession of Estate of Survey and Valuation even in Nigeria”, he said
Another former staff of the company, Yemi Olugbenle lauded the turn out of the program, adding that their gesture has meet the needs of the community.
He how called on governments at all levels to continue to partner with private institutions in bridging the gap in the housing sector
Meanwhile, the daughter of the celebrant, Mrs Jumoke Anifalaje described his father as a humanitarian, saying that she is proud to have him as a father.
Mr Anifalaje who is also the vice chairman of Jide Taiwo and Co submitted that her father finds joy in impacting positively in people’s lives, adding that the program organized in his honour will help in improving the quality healthcare of the residents of the community.
The head of the medical team and founder of Abimslove4allinitiative, Ezuma Rachael Okanlawon confirmed that the prevailing medical trends in the community shows a high level of eyes defects, advising that residents should continue to engage in regular check ups
“Today we have carried out medical check-ups for the people of Ota, it consists of blood sugar tests, blood pressure, temperature, eyes screening, free glasses, free drugs were also given. We also gave anti malaria drugs and mosquitoes treated net to reduce the prevalence of malaria disease in the community.
“So looking at the tests that we have conducted so far, we have been able to draw out a conclusion that in the community, there is a high prevalence of eye defects, so many of them have eye problems one or the other, some of them have been attended to, some will gave them free reading glasses, some we gave them ointment and some eye drops while others we are unable to attend to, we recommended them to the nearest eye clinic nearby”, he noted
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to our correspondents expressed joy for receiving free medical services.
