ABEOKUTA— The political atmosphere in Ogun State has taken a dramatic turn following an alleged confrontation at the residence of elder statesman Chief Joju Fadairo.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a blistering attack on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), warning them to stop harassing the respected leader over his political choices.
The controversy erupted following an incident on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, when top leaders of the APC Apex body in Ifo Local Government allegedly “stormed” Chief Fadairo’s house.
According to a statement signed by Afolabi Orekoya, the ruling party’s delegation made frantic, high-pressure attempts to force the elder statesman to retract his endorsement of PDP leader Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu.
The tension traces back to Monday, June 8, 2026, when Hon. Adebutu visited Chief Fadairo at his home. During the visit, Baba Fadairo reportedly expressed his support for Adebutu “joyfully and willfully.”
This open display of alignment by a revered political figure apparently sent the local APC chapter into a tailspin.
According to Orekoya’s account, the APC leaders mounted immense pressure on the elderly statesman, repeatedly questioning his loyalty and demanding that he publicly debunk the endorsement.
The PDP has capitalized on the incident, framing it as a sign of absolute desperation from a “drowning party”, suggesting that the ruling party is losing its grip on key figures ahead of the 2027 general elections due to internal dissatisfaction particularly regarding the choice of an alleged “stranger” as the APC’s prospective candidate.
