ABEOKUTA –The Non- Academic staff Union of Educational and Associated institutions (NASU) Ogun state chapter has stated that the shortage of staff was due to the stagnation of career of its members working in the teaching service commission.
The Chairman of the association, Comr. Emmanuel Christianah Oluremi, made this assertion Wednesday, during the 2023 NASU DAY celebration held in Abeokuta.
Oluremi therefore called on the state governor, Dapo Abiodun to help in the approval of employment to curb shortage of staffs in schools.
The chairman, while stressing that members cannot progress beyond grade level 14 despite having requisite qualifications like their counterpart in the mainstream, has caused a number of its members to cross to the mainstream where they probably get to the peak of their career.
While appreciating the governor on the release of deductions made in the recent months, they asked for more releases to enable the catering of retirees before the gratuity is paid and requested for a utility vehicle.
“We want to sincerely appreciate your Excellency for the release of deductions so far made in the recent moths, like Oliver twist we want to appeal that more release should be done to enable us cater for our retirees who always look forward to this money as a means of sustainance before the payment of their gratuity by the government, it is disheartening to say here that some had died not getting this retirement savings and we don’t pray this continues, we are aware of the situation of the economy but we continually pray for you and your government and we believe that the God will answer us.
“ Your Excellency sir, during the last Teachers day celebration, you made a donation of a 18 sealer bus to all Unions and Association in the Education sector, the most recent is the donation of same to ANCOPSS, it will interest you to note sir that of all Union and Association in the Education sector NASU Schools and Colleges is the only one left out in the donation, we have known you to be a governor who believes in fairness, equity and justice and it is on the basis of this that we hereby make a passionate appeal for the donation of our own bus to complete the cycle and we believe that we can consider it done.
The chairman also appreciated members of the branch for their unalloyed cooperation and support and urged them to extend the same support to the next set of executives as this will help move the association forward both in the State and at the National level.
