ABEOKUTA– Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Information Communication Technology (ICT), Olakunle Akibola has called on Female youths to become more involved in ICT.
Akibola made the call on Tuesday at the 3rd year celebration of Digital Nigeria Day held at the Ogun TechHub center, Kobape Abeokuta, the State Capital.
According to him, the OgunTechHub is training Young females between the age of 18 years to 35 years in Data Science, Machine learning, and Web development.
He described the program ABOCODERS, (Female Coder) as a project aimed at removing obstacles to a productive and prosperous life for young women from low-income families in underserved locations in Nigeria
This Year’s Celebration with the theme, ‘Digital Transformation: A path to sustainable digital economy’ was organized by the Ogun State Bureau of Information Technology.
Akibola appreciates the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun for his notable contribution towards the development of technology in the State adding that one of the core objectives of the current administration is the need to digitalize the State in preparation for a digital economy.
Speaking on the importance of ICT at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Ogunleye A.O represented by Akinola Okeriafo, described technology as a powerful tool that helps in making life better.
Her words: “it has simplified everything including teaching. And we cannot afford to move without the trend.
“We want to thank our governor Dapo Abiodun, the first state governor in all the 36 states in Nigeria to digitalize the education sector through the implementation of the Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA) to set the gold standard for the future of education in Ogun State.
“it has helped in collecting, processing, and disseminating materials for education and keeping track of the day-to-day academic progress of students and even teachers.
“It is aimed at strengthening the security, safety of the school management, infrastructural development as well as the student welfare.
“We are trying to make sure we are in line with the federal government and we are expected to be innovative, supportive, collaborative, and educative for our economic progression to be guaranteed” she concluded.
Meanwhile, the Guest Speaker Debo Omololu, CEO of GetFundedAfrica represented by Tunji Oke, thanked the Ogun State Bureau of Information and Technology for allowing young ones to be in the digital world.
He, therefore, encouraged the youth to get more engaged with ICT as the world is becoming a digital village.
To mark the celebration of Digital Nigeria Day, the Rehoboth Newell College designed a website, the Primary School designed a simple light circuit and electrical hand fan, and a student from the Blackcock University Staff School designed an Electromagnetism transducer.
Dignitaries in attendance were Eng Femi Williams, Dr. Sowole, Ola Mustapha, and Ademola Adenubi among others.
Other participants include the NYSC members, The Ogun State Trace Corps, Students from the Asero High School, Salawu Abiola Comprehensive High School, Breakthrough Academy, Abeokuta grammar school, Green pasture college, and The Crescent International School.
