ABEOKUTA–The former Ogun State Head of Service, Engr. Lanre Bisiriyu has noted that the poor Management practices at all levels of government activities is behind the slow developmental pace recorded so far in the country.
Engr. Bisiriyu stated this while delivering a lecture titled, ‘Building Management Excellence for Improved Productivity’ at the 60th years Anniversary of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) held at the Abeokuta chapter of the institute.
Bisiriyu maintained that the level of resources and human management in the country is at a pandemic level, adding that to drive productivity, there is need to build excellent capacity around the workforce.
Describing management as a way of optimally utilising resources to achieve set objectives, Engr. Bisiriyu added that it is worrisome that most Nigerian leaders has despised proper planning, effective organisation and time management in the running of the country’s affairs.
“Management 101 defines management to be the systematic way of optimally utilising resources to achieve set objectives to the satisfaction of shareholders, owners and members.
“How then have almost all of us come to despise proper planning, effective organisation, sincere leadership, corruption-proof controlling, logical time management”, he queried.
He therefore commend the institute for demonstrating management excellence throughout it’s sixty years of existence through it’s charter, Code of Conduct, programs and practices, saying that members should live up to the calling as professional managers when call duty calls.
