ABEOKUTA– The Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker has emphasized that good nutrition and diets are major factors in the fight against Covid-19.
Dr. Coker stated this at the commemoration of the year 2021 World Nutritionist and Dietician Day held at the Government House, Isale Igbeyin, Abeokuta, with the theme ‘Diet and Covid-19’
Coker, speaking after receiving an award from the body stated that people should place their health on a top priority, adding that good nutrition is key in curbing diseases.
“Nutrition is key to our well being and good in-take of nutrition will help the immune system to fight Covid-19”. Coker maintained
Also speaking, the chairman of the Association of Nutritionist and Dieticians Practitioners (ANDPO) in Ogun State, Mr. J A Ojabello explain that a good immune system will enable to fight Covid-19 while advising the government to work on the security of the country in order for farmers to provide adequate food supply for the society.
He however call on government to employ expert nutritionists in all the health facilities in the country, adding that the good diet and nutrition will assist in patients recovery.
“This is just an opener as people has not been recognising the role of Dieticians and nutritionist in Nigeria. So, we want to use the opportunity tell the world that we cannot be put aside in health delivery” Ojebello reteraites
