ABEOKUTA–The immediate past Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Adeyemi Azeez has threatened to take legal action against Sahara Reporters over an alleged report of his detention at the just concluded NANS Election in Abuja
Comrade Adeyemi who is also the Special Assistant to Ogun State Governor on Students Matters, made this known in a press conference held Thursday in Abeokuta.
He called on the management of Sahara Reporters to provide proof of his arrest by either the Men of the Department of State Security (DSS) or Nigeria Police Force (NPF) within 72 hours.
“Failure for them to do this, I will take necessary legal action against them to seek redress for publishing this unconfirmed story and defamation of my character.
Adeyemi said that he was neither arrested nor detained by any security agency during the national convention of the association.
He also challenged the DSS to tell the world if at any point in time he was arrested during the NANS convention.
“My political enemies had been at work ahead of that Thursday convention because I had previously received several calls on Tuesday that have been arrested by the police and not until Thursday that Sahara Reporters decided to publish a fake, integrity attacking and unjustifiable story .
“It became obvious that the drama was desperately targeted at destroying me and as well attack the good image of the governor of Ogun state.
“After due consultations with relevant authority and my immediate political family, I need to clear the air on this misinformation and propaganda as published by Sahara Reporters on December 3.
“I make it bold to say that these concurred lies were politically motivated on my refusal to align with some interests regardless of pressure across for a particular candidate for NANS president zoned to SouthWest in accordance with NANS constitution,” he said.
