ABEOKUTA– The Ogun State Government, through the Office of the Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Students Matters on thursday, sensitised students in tertiary institutions across the state on covid-19 preventive measures.
The one day workshop which was held at Valley View Auditorium, Isale-Igbehin, Abeokuta, was part of preparations made by the state government to flatten the curve of the pandemic, even as the schools are set to open for academics
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Matters, Comrade Azeez Adeyemi while welcoming the participants to the event said the main essence of the training and sensitisation workshop is to equip the students with all covid-19 protocols.
He added that the workshop was also to train student union leaders on how to commence a process of mobilising and reorientating students in the state.
Comrd. Azeez further stated that the students must be ready to assist themselves and the government in order to manage and control the dreaded pandemic on campuses.
“You must prepare yourself as worthy ambassadors and campaigners against COVID -19 pandemic as you resume to your respective campuses”
“We must all unite against this common adversary that has sniffed life out of hundreds of thousands of people across the globe,” he said.
Speaking on the sideline of the event, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abiodun on Health, Dr. Kehinde Ololade said the exercise was to prepare the mind of the students on how to protect themselves.
“As part of our plans to ensure that covid-19 does not become a problem following the resumption of student we have having this sensitasiton to prepare them on how to modify some of their programs as much as possible.”
“The ones that can be done virtually are done virtually, the ones that which there are limitations of people together also as much as possible the awareness of the symptoms of covid-19”
“Their responsibility is that they should be aware of any signs, they should know that The covid-19 is not a death sentence. They should not stigmatize anybody that Is covid-19 positive.
“They should as much as possible be able to support their trainers when they make request for smaller number of people in classes and physical distancing and also to ensure that as many people as possible can do the risk assessment and modify as much as possible” Dr. Kehinde said
He also highlighted that there is a training going on for the lecturers, principals and students leaders so there won’t be a generational gap between the students and the lectures.
Also speaking, the Guest Speaker and Chief Executive Officer, Ubong King Foundation, Mr Ubong King, admonished the students on how to be great leaders, adding that for every decision they make today will have a lasting effects on their future.
