ABEOKUTA– The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun today at his Oke Mosan office, Abeokuta planted trees in commemoration of the certification of the African region for eradication of wild polio virus
The governor, while addressing newsmen said the state have increased efforts to ensure sustenance of routine immunization and surveillance, adding that the 236 wards in the 20 local government areas have experienced scale up process in order to maintain the suceess gained so far.
Abiodun further maintained that his administration has intensified efforts to interrupt the transmission of Circulating Vaccine derived Polio Virus II detected at Imeko-Afon in March, 2019.
In his words, ” I stand before you all today to commemorate the certification of the African region by World Health Organization, for eradication of Polio Virus in the continent”
“This certification symbolises that no child anywhere in Africa will ever again be paralysed by any poliovirus – wild or vaccine – derived”
“This milestone is an incredible public health achievement for the continent and a huge step forward on the road to global Polio eradication”
“The support of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) is worthy of note and very commendable in the fight to eradicate Polio in Nigeria”
“While we celebrate our joint success, it is also important that we all remember that the war against polio is won not on a silver platter”
“We cannot afford to lose our guards at any point. We must sustain the innovative approaches, such as increased community involvement and the establishment of Emergency Operations Centres at the National and State levels, all which have been pivotal to Nigeria’s success”
“As I once again congratulate all of us for this milestone achievement, it is with a sense of fulfilment that I plant this tree in commemoration of the Certification of African Region for Eradication of Wild Polio Virus.”
