ABEOKUTA– The Ogun–Guangdong Free Trade Zone (OGFTZ) has confirmed that no human casualties were recorded in the fire incident that occurred at the mattress section in the zone.
It further added that contrary to misleading reports circulating online, the incident did not extend to any residential areas, nor was it a gas explosion.
In a statement signed by Steve Makanjuola for Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) and the China-Africa Investment FZC (OGFTZ Management), a copy made available to The News Ville, it said the fire was promptly contained by the Ogun State Fire Service and other private companies
“This timely intervention successfully prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining enterprises.
“There were no casualties recorded, and the incident was effectively de-escalated before it could pose any wider risk.
“The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and verified findings will be communicated through official channels in due course.
“OGFTZ reiterates that operations within the Free Trade Zone are conducted in a lawful and compliant manner, with strict adherence to all applicable legal, safety, and regulatory provisions.
“OGFTZ appreciates the cooperation and support of relevant government agencies, host community and other private companies during this challenging period. This collective response emphasize the importance of partnership, preparedness, and coordinated emergency management.
“The Zone also encourages members of the media to verify information through official sources prior to publication, in order to promote accurate reporting and curb the spread of misinformation.
“OGFTZ remains committed to upholding the highest standards of safety and operational integrity across all enterprises and assures the public that the situation is fully under control”, the statement reads
