Customs Makes Seizure Value At 1.5bn In Ogun

IDIROKO– The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command has made seizures of various contraband items worth about One Billion, Five Hundred and Eighty-Six Million, Eight Thousand, Nine hundred and Eighty-Two Naira.

The seized items varies from hard drugs which includes 16 pieces of heroine weighing 16 kg, 11 wraps of Meth crystal known as Ice weighing 12kg, cannabis sativa, foreign used vehicles, foreign parboiled rice, Vegetable Oil, spaghetti among others.

The Acting Comptroller, DC Olukayode Afeni while briefing newsmen at Idiroko stated that the seized items were intercepted at different locations within Ogun State, including Lusada-Ado-Odo axis, Abule Kazeem-Igbo-Ora road, Abeokuta axis, Imeko axis,Idiroko-Owode axis, and Ipokia axis among others.

He however attributed the overstretched health service and support being encountered in Nigeria especially among the youths as the effects of the hard drug being smuggled into the country saying the crucial effect of these seizures in protecting vulnerable sections of the population.

“The seizure of Narcotics being Crystal Meth and Cannabis Sativa is particularly worrisome, given their far-reaching impact on our youth, public health, and national security.

“Global instability has intensified challenges in addressing the world’s drug problems. Organized trafficking groups have pushed drug use to historically high levels according to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)”, he said

He therefore commend the gallantry of his officers and other sister agencies for their commitment to the service’s core mandates of revenue generation, suppression of smuggling, and trade facilitation.

”In my inaugural speech I made it clear to economic saboteurs who may wish to test our resolve, that Ogun I command under my watch will not tolerate any form of economic sabotage.

“I made a pledge to deploy all lawful means to combat smuggling and enforce compliance with extant trade laws and regulations and that our approach will be firm, fair, and intelligence-driven.

“As promised, we have intensified surveillance, deployed strategic intelligence, strengthened collaboration with sister agencies and community stakeholders to enhance border operations. These deliberate efforts have yielded remarkable results”, he added

On revenue generation, the Afeni noted that the command made Twenty Seven Million, Two Hundred and Ninety-One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Sixty-One Naira Only, in generated revenue as at 16 December 2025

Meanwhile, while receiving the seized hard drugs from Customs, the Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Area Command, Idiroko, Olaniyi Ekundayo, commended the Comptroller for strengthening the existing collaboration between the agency and NCS adding that the mandate is to deal decisively with drug cartels and their collaborators.

He warned youths on the hazard of drugs intake as it poses threat to their health and national security.
