ABEOKUTA– Foremost lecturer and Advert guru, Dr. Wasiu Tejuoso has emerged as the Head of Department, Mass Communication of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta.
Tejuoso emergence followed an elections after his appointment in Acting capacity weeks earlier was the first of it’s kind in the history of the department since it’s over four decades of existence.
Dr. Tejuoso who defeated his counterpart, Dr. Shola Haruna Adeosun with one vote was declared HoD Elect after due diligence by the electoral body set up by the institution’s apex body.
According to the Chairman of the electoral body, Mr. Segun Kelani, a total of twelve eligible academic staff of the department voted in the keenly contested bout with Dr. Tejuoso emerging winner with six votes, while his opponent had five votes with one vote voided.
Our reporter who monitored the exercise reported that the elections was free and fair with no sign of electoral malpractices.
A source who witnessed the elections decried what he tagged ‘high level conspiracy’ against the winner, who incidentally is the most senior and most qualified in the race. According to him, while other departments supported the Management earlier appointed Heads of Department in the spirit of unity and solidarity, the situation in the department of Mass Communication was different as it was marred with personal but later turned group hatred against one of the contenders. This he said is not too good for the academics who should know better and who should be a mirror to others in the society. “While one appreciate that in any democracy, there will be camps, but it shouldn’t have degenerated into such messy conspiracy”. He observed.
Efforts to reach out to the contestants prove abortive before this report, as the two of them we learnt. left immediately after casting their votes.
