IKOM– To commence the activities of the second edition of the Ikom Carnival, the State Governor, Apostle Sen. [Prince] Bassey Edet Otu lights up the Ikom Carnival Tree, the exercise took place at the Ikom township stadium with Hon. Neji Abang, Member Representing Ikom 1 Constituency lighting up the tree on behalf of the State Governor.
Hon. Neji Abang commended the State Governor and his beloved Wife for having such a wonderful vision and idea thereby bringing the fun down to the other remaining Senatorial Districts. “What we usually see in Calabar, can today be seen in our various Local Government Areas courtesy of our amiable and People First Governor and his wife.”
On her part, the Executive Chairman of Ikom Local Government Area, Hon. Pst. [Mrs] Mercy Nsor, has declared readiness to host the 2nd edition of the Ikom Carnival.
This declaration is a testament to the Chairman’s commitment to promoting cultural heritage and tourism in Ikom LGA.
The Ikom Carnival, which debuted last year, was a rest rounding success, attracting visitors from far and wide.
The Carnival showcased the rich cultural diversity of the Ikom people and the entire Central Senatorial District, featuring traditional dances, music, and attire.
This year’s edition as assured by Mr Gommex Bassey, the Chairman of the Ikom Carnival, promises to be even bigger and better, with more exciting activities and events lined up, with the Christmas Tree already lighted, all is now set for the Children Carnival, Street Party as well as the main Carnival to take place between 18th and 19th of December.
According to the Executive Chairman, the Council, in collaboration with the Ikom Carnival Committee, and other Local Government Chairmen of the Central Senatorial District, has made adequate preparations to ensure a successful and memorable event. Hon. Mercy Nsor has assured that all necessary logistics, including security are in place to guarantee a hitch-free Carnival.
The Ikom Carnival is not just a celebration of culture; it is also an opportunity to promote tourism and economic development in the area. The event is expected to attract tourists, investors, and business entrepreneurs, which will have a positive impact on the Local/State Economy.
Furthermore, the carnival will provide a platform for the people of Ikom LGA and other LGAs in Central to showcase their skills, talents, and creativity. It will also foster unity and solidarity among the people, promoting a sense of belonging and community.
In line with the visions of the Executive Governor, Apostle Sen. [Prince] Bassey Edet Otu, the exercise is aimed at bringing down governance and the fun of the famous Calabar Carnival down to the grassroots to enable even the poorest of the poor as well as the less privileges who do not have the resources to travel down to Calabar during the Carnival, to have the experience and fun that comes with it.
In a Vote Of Thanks delivered by Secretary of Council, Hon. Edo Owan, he noted that “the things we got used to seeing in Calabar, we’re now seeing them today, we thank Gov. Otu and his dear wife for this vision”. He Assured them of a better event come next year.
Other Activities and dates are scheduled as follows:
19th December :Six LGAs in Central to meet and compete for a star price
18th Children Carnival and Street Party at Obudu Road by 7 pm.
At the end of the event, prices will be awarded to competing Local Government Areas with the most outstanding LGA expected to cart away prestigious prices.
