Exclusive: Ogun APC Chairmanship, Councillorship Aspirants On the Verge Of Defecting To PDP

ABEOKUTA– Crisis seems to be brewing in the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as about 15 chairmanship, 25 Councillorship aspirants are on the verge of defecting to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The aspirants in an exclusive interview with The News Ville, cited the unfulfilled promises of Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun to adequately compensate them having lost out in the primaries, as one of the reason for their ‘proposed’ defection to the opposition party.

One of the aspirants who claimed anonymity, disclosed that the governor has failed to recognize them in the scheme of things in the party, adding that their hard work in making the party strong is being rubbished.

“Yes, the opposition parties in the state are talking to us as a group. The prospect of joining the main opposition party, the PDP is high but I will not disclose further information on that yet.

“The only thing here is that the Governor has failed us, and we can’t keep crying foul when our services is needed somewhere else”, he said

Recall that the governor had promised that all those who obtained the nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the July 24, 2021 local government elections would be compensated by his administration.

He assured that chairmanship or councillorship aspirants who lost out in the primaries “would be given something” at the end of the day.

The Governor made this known while addressing party faithful at Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State almost a year ago.

According to Abiodun, he said he was aware of the fact that many people aspired to be chairmen, councillors and others, saying however that only one person would claim a post at a time.

“All those who were not chosen in the primaries would be given something. They will all be compensated”, he promised.

As at the time of filing this report, the same promises made to other aspirants at the just concluded House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senatorial primary elections are also still waiting for actualisation.
