IKOM– Yakurr Local Government Area has defeated host Ikom and 4 other Local Government Areas to clinch the “2024 Central Senatorial District Carnival” held at the Ikom Township Stadium.
The Carnival witnessed a rich display of culture and artifacts as competing LGAs tried to interpret the year’s theme, “Our Shared Prosperity.”
It was a blast of thunderous applauses and cheers as the Executive Chairman of Ikom Local Government Area, Hon. Pastor [Mrs] Mercy Nsor, wowed the crowd with her energetic dance moves during the Central Senatorial District Carnival, reminiscing her very good old days.
The Chairman, who joined in the 2km walk from the popular 4-Corners Roundabout to the Stadium, was accompanied by the Member Representing Ikom 1 State Constituency, Hon. Neji Abang, Leader of Council, Hon. Moyo Efale and his Legislative Members, Secretary of Council, Hon. Edo Owan, LGC Directors, Supervisors, Special Assistants, Personal Assistants, and other members of her cabinet.
Speaking to newsmen at the First Adjudication Point, Hon. Mrs. Mercy Nsor said the idea of decentralizing the Carnival sparks the volume of His Excellency Apostle Sen. [Prince] Bassey Otu’s efforts in taking the government to the reach of all.
“The Governor, His Excellency Apostle Sen. [Prince] Bassey Edet Otu and his dear wife, her Excellency Bishop [Mrs] Eyoanwan Otu has in their magnanimity graciously decentralized the event to give every district a sense of belonging and inclusiveness; today, our people and our children have a feeling of what their counterparts in Calabar enjoy.
As a Local Government Area, we will continue to host a befitting event yearly and in line with establishing ourselves as a tourist destination in Cross River State.”
The Carnival Calabar brand is recognized as Africa’s largest Street Party, which draws tourists from all across the globe to witness a nonstop 32 days of fun, education, and entertainment, including the Children’s Carnival, Cultural Carnival, and the Street Procession.
