ABEOKUTA- Former spokesperson to Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign and gubernatorial aspirant in Ogun State, Otunba Segun Sowunmi has said he would run a free educational policy if elected to govern the state in 2023.
Sowunmi, who made this known during Iftar (breaking of fast) with journalists in Ogun at his residence in Abeokuta, on Tuesday, stated that the policy will cover from the Nursery stage, which he added is the educational foundation of any child
Sowunmi however accused the present administration of paying lip services to security, health, education and development issues in the state, adding that the lack of effective social welfare programmes and policies have turned children of the poor to beggars in the state.
“I intend to run Ogun State as if it is a country. I have told those that are closed to me. I am looking for a Deputy Governor who in his own right is a governorship material. I’m not looking for a spare tyre. This is because when you would be busy running to Abuja, I want to be busy writing policies.
“For me, the development of this state is total. I am looking to create an Ogun that will be absolutely self sufficient.
One of the first things that we are going to do if I win and may God let me win, is to create an Ogun Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, where bright minds of Ogun will seat down every blessed day, crafting solutions to problems of now and even problems of the future”, he added
He however noted that his campaign is aimed to inspire the younger ones to aspire for greatness, adding that most youths have lost mentorship which has further raise dust on the quality of education that the country provides.
“Another reason am contesting is to inspire our younger generation. While we were growing, Obafemi Awolowo, Wole Soyinka Tai Solarin and the rest inspires us through their speeches. Who is inspiring our youths today?.
“I may not know the outcome of the general elections, that’s for the people to decide but what I know is that the quality of conversation around the issues I will be bringing, might just inspire one youth out there to aspire for greatness”, he noted
