ABEOKUTA– The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it has recorded significant anti-smuggling breakthroughs, seizing contraband worth ₦2,469,153,523.68 in Duty Paid Value (DPV) between August 2025 to September 2026.
The developments were announced by the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, during an operational press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Idiroko, Thursday
Highlighting the major interceptions, DC Afeni disclosed that officers seized a top-of-the-range 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography P530 valued at ₦417,011,982.00, alongside large quantities of illicit goods aimed at sabotaging the nation’s economy.
Other Intercepted narcotics includes 3,893 parcels of cannabis Indica weighing 1.878 tonnes, 1,204 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 8,675 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 500 litres of diesel in kegs, 428 pneumatic tyres, 24 bales of second-hand clothing and 4 sacks of used shoes.
In alignment with inter-agency collaboration guidelines, the Command officially handed over the seized 3,893 parcels of cannabis to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Idiroko Special Command for further investigation and prosecution.
DC Afeni attributed the operational successes to intelligence-led enforcement, tightened border security, and strategic synergy with the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, and local border communities.
”To the perpetrators of economic sabotage and illegal border activities, our message remains unequivocal, Ogun I Command will continue to be a hostile zone for uncustomed goods and illicit trade,” DC Afeni warned.
The Acting Area Controller praised the support of Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and commended the officers of the Command for their resilience, noting that the unit also recently clinched the championship title in volleyball at the Inter-Command Athletic Competitions.
