ABEOKUTA– The Seriki Hausa of Egbaland, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Hassan has welcomed the Health Insurance Scheme for motorcycle riders in the state, saying that his Arewa community are happy to embrace it.
Hassan stated this while speaking at the flag off of the scheme at Abeokuta South local government Secretariat, Ake on Tuesday.
Hassan noted that unlike before where the burden of caring for accident victims lie solely on the leadership, he lauded the government for ensuring that an insurance scheme such as this will henceforth take care of victims.
The Arewa community leader emphasized that he will ensure full compliance with the scheme, while advising that passengers should also ensure they take only insured riders.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Abeokuta South local government, Hon. Afeez Balogun while flagging off the scheme noted that the scheme is in tandem with the state government policy of inclusive health care for all strata of the society.
“We have been working on this scheme since assumption of office. This is part of the governor’s commitment to the people, and all we have done is to replicate it at the grassroot level.
” We have gone further to accommodate the informal sector, meaning all Okada riders, including their passengers can be covered in this scheme.
“I am sure this is why they are happy for it to work. Now they have a solution to accidental care, which hiterto has been a burden to them”, he added
